Indiana AD Greenspan reportedly stepping down
Jun 26, 2008 - 8:47 PM INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (Ticker) -- The decision to bring in Kelvin Sampson has proved to be a costly one for Rick Greenspan. The Indiana athletic director will resign in the wake of an additional violation concerning the embattled former men's basketball coach, radio station WIBC reported on Thursday.
The resignation of Greenspan, however, will not happen until the end of the year, according to reports. Indiana has a press conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
After listening to Indiana's defense of recruiting allegations committed by Sampson earlier this month, the NCAA infraction committee has decided to levy a fourth major penalty against the school, as it failed to adequately monitor Sampson, who was forced to leave Oklahoma in 2006 due to numerous illegal phone calls.
Sampson resigned from Indiana on February 22 following the latest revelation of allegations.
According to the report, the university will have a chance to respond to the newest allegation. However, Greenspan, who disagrees with the charge, believes it is in the school's best interest that he leave his post.
No one has shouted yet.
