ATHENS, Georgia (Ticker) -- Georgia senior guard Billy Humphrey was dismissed from the men's basketball team Friday, three days after his third arrest over the past seven months.
Humphrey, 20, who averaged 12.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 30 of 34 games for the Bulldogs last season, was arrested Tuesday morning in Gwinnett County, Georgia for DUI, failure to maintain his lane and purchasing alcohol while under age.
"I am disappointed in Billy," Georgia coach Dennis Felton said. "We've really worked hard with him in the past to see that he succeeds, but I feel that it's now best for our program to move forward without him."
According to the police report of his drunk driving arrest obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Humphrey pleaded with police not to arrest him and was later warned that he could be tasered.
The Dacula, Georgia native, who also led the Bulldogs in 3-point field-goal percentage (37.2) and free-throw percentage (83.1), was also arrested in February on alcohol-related charges.
Humphrey was also placed on probation for 18 months and entered into a pre-trial diversion program as result of a November felony weapons charge for having a butterfly knife in his dorm room. He was suspended for a total of four games last season for the two incidents.
