DAVIDSON, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Coming off one of the best seasons in school history, Davidson coach Bob McKillop was given a contract extension through 2016 on Saturday.

Davidson finished 29-7 last year, McKillop's 19th at the helm of the Wildcats. He also guided Davidson to its first NCAA Tournament win in 39 years, as the Wildcats reached the regional finals.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have reached an agreement with coach McKillop that will enable him to remain at Davidson for at least eight more years," Davidson president Tom Ross said. "After 19 years at Davidson, it is clear to everyone that Coach McKillop is one of the nation's premier basketball coaches.

"At Davidson, we know that he is also an outstanding leader of young men and an ideal representative of Davidson, a college of excellence, both academically and athletically."

The Wildcats, led by sophomore shooting guard Stephen Curry, enjoyed a 25-game winning streak last season and reached the regional finals before losing, 59-57, to eventual champion Kansas.

Davidson had a 20-0 record in the Southern Conference and have won 30 consecutive conference games dating to the 2006-07 campaign.

"I'd like to thank Tom Ross, the Davidson College community, my staff, all of my players and my family for giving me the opportunity to continue my commitment to Davidson," McKillop said. "Commitment has been the foundation of what we have accomplished, and this clearly strengthens the foundation."

Davidson has earned a total of five NCAA Tournament berths and three NIT appearances during McKillop's tenure. He is the school's all-time winningest coach with a career record of 340-225.
