Dayton hopes to slow down Marquette

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Illinois (Ticker) -- Under its new coach Buzz Williams, Marquette is scoring in bunches. The team showed it is capable of playing a little defense as well.

Marquette looks to win its sixth straight game when it takes on Dayton in the Chicago Invitational on Satuday.

The Golden Eagles are averaging 91.8 points and are coming off a 73-43 triumph over Northern Iowa on Friday. Marquette held Northern Iowa to 35 percent shooting (18-of-51) from the floor.

Wesley Matthews leads Marquette at 21.6 points per game and Lazar Hayward is averaging 19.6 and 9.6 rebounds per contest.

Dayton will put Marquette's high-scoring offense to the test as the Flyers are only allowing 48.2 points per game.

The Flyers, who are off to their first 5-0 start since 2003, are coming off a 60-59 overtime victory against Auburn on Friday.

Marcus Johnson scored 16 points in the win but Dayton missed all 24 of its 3-point attempts.
