Notre Dame F Harangody out indefinitely with pneumonia

Nov 30, 2008 - 12:56 AM SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Luke Harangody will miss the foreseeable future for Notre Dame after coming down with pneumonia, the school announced Saturday.

The 6-8 forward became ill following the Fighting Irish's 81-80 win over Texas in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational on Tuesday. Still, Harangody played in the title game against top-ranked North Carolina, scoring 13 points and collecting seven rebounds in the 102-87 loss.

No timetable has been set for a return by Harangody, who has never missed a game in his time at Notre Dame, starting 54 of 70 contests.

"There's no timetable set right now in terms of when Luke is going to be able to play in a game," Fighting Irish coach Mike Brey said. "We're going to be very careful and cautious with his illness. Our immediate concern is Luke and his health."

The reigning Big East Player of the Year, Harangody leads the team in both scoring (22.6 ppg) and rebounding (11.2 rpg).

Notre Dame (4-1) returns to action against Furman on Sunday. The Fighting Irish also will host South Dakota on Tuesday before facing Ohio State in the Hall of Fame Showcase on December 6.
