Iowa G Tucker suspended due to alcohol-related incident

Dec 8, 2008 - 11:40 PM IOWA CITY, Iowa (Ticker) -- Iowa leading scorer Anthony Tucker has been suspended indefinitely due to an alcohol-related incident, coach Todd Lickliter stated Monday.

A freshman, Tucker was suspended by the team in a statement on Sunday, declaring that he had violated team rules.

Lickliter expanded somewhat on Tucker's problems Monday, stating that the 19-year-old's offense was due to under-age drinking and a curfew violation.

"It is alcohol-related and it is nothing beyond that," Lickliter said. "It is an offense of curfew and under age.

"Anthony Tucker called me Sunday morning to tell me that he had a lapse in judgment, and he knew the ramifications for it. I'll just tell you, it was a lack of training. An alcohol-related lack of training."

So far, Tucker's problem does not have any legal ramifications. According to a report by The Daily Iowan, neither Iowa City nor university police have cited Tucker in any police reports.

However, Lickliter stated that the school's investigation is still ongoing.

"We're still in a little bit of a fact-gathering situation," Lickliter said. "In fairness to Anthony, I don't want to elaborate. It's something we need to address. He's an outstanding young man.

"It is a distraction. We can't change anything, but we'll all learn and grow. I'm going to withhold details until I know anything."

Tucker has averaged 13.1 points over the first nine games for the Hawkeyes (7-2), who will face Northern Iowa on Tuesday.
