Mississippi State's Stansbury to coach Thursday

Dec 17, 2008 - 5:33 PM STARKVILLE, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Mississippi State men's basketball coach Rick Stansbury was released from Northeast Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Wednesday and will coach the Bulldogs in Thursday's game at Cincinnati in the SEC/Big East Challenge.

The school announced that doctors have cleared Stansbury to make the trip to Cincinnati and he will travel with the team Wednesday afternoon.

Stansbury, 48, was admitted to Oktibbeha County Hospital on Sunday night after complaining of severe migraines and flu-like symptoms. He was transferred to the Northeast Mississippi Medical Center on Monday morning.

In Stansbury's absence, associate coach Robert Kirby had assumed the day-to-day duties of the team, which improved to 7-3 following a 79-60 win over South Alabama on Saturday.

Stansbury is in his 11th season at Mississippi State.
