LYNCHBURG, Virginia (Ticker) -- Seth Curry is taking his game to the big time.

The younger brother of Davidson star Stephen, Curry has decided to transfer from Liberty to Duke, Flames coach Ritchie McKay announced late Sunday.

Curry opted to leave Liberty and the Big South Conference in search of a higher level of competition.

"I received a call from Seth today and he told me he decided on transferring to Duke," McKay said. "My immediate reaction was what a great opportunity for Seth. Duke is a program rich in tradition with not only one of the greatest head coaches of all time, but an impressive staff, as well.

"I am excited that Seth will be able to fulfill his desires at a place as prestigious and successful as Duke."

The 6-3 Curry moved out from the shadow of his famous older brother during his recently completed first year, leading the nation's freshmen in scoring with 20.2 points.

Curry also set a Liberty record for the most 3-pointers made with 102 en route to being named the Big South Conference freshman of the year.

Behind their stellar freshman guard, the Flames posted a 23-12 record, losing to James Madison in the second round of the inaugural CollegeInsider.com tournament on Thursday.

Curry joins a Duke squad that was manhandled by Villanova in the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, when coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils fell short of the Elite Eight for the fifth consecutive year.

Duke has also not won a national championship since 2001.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Curry will be forced to sit out the entire 2009-2010 season.
