Dar Tucker Bio
May 15, 2009 - 11:10 PM By SANTOSH VENKATARAMAN STATS Senior Writer=NAME: Dar Tucker
SCHOOL: DePaul
POSITION: Guard
HEIGHT: 6-foot-5
WEIGHT: 215 pounds
SCOUTING REPORT: Tucker is a very solid athlete who is physically prepared to play in the NBA. He averaged a team-high 18.5 points as a sophomore for DePaul, including 16.9 against tough Big East competition, before announcing his intentions to leave school. His athleticism makes him a perfect fit for an up-tempo style in the NBA. Tucker has proven he can use his quickness to get into the lane and he uses his strength well to finish around the basket. The big weakness for Tucker is his shooting - he shot 39.0 percent overall this past season and 28.4 percent on 3-pointers. Projected as a shooting guard, Tucker must learn to hit a standstill jumper to keep defenders honest. Another concern is that Tucker does not seem to have a strong grasp of the game. He was the victim of poor coaching at DePaul in his two seasons there, and the Blue Demons' offense too often consisted of him trying to go 1-on-1 with the shot clock winding down. Another factor hampering his development was the lack of talent around him at DePaul, with Tucker forced to take a high volume of shots while sacrificing good shot selection. Tucker did end his college career on a high note, scoring 30 points in a loss to Providence in the Big East tournament with a performance at Madison Square Garden that showcased his versatility. While it is unlikely that Tucker will be drafted, he should get invited to a training camp where he could be given a chance to make a roster.
