Moore leads UConn over Vanguard in exhibition game
Nov 10, 2009 - 2:11 AM HARTFORD, Conn.(AP) -- Maya Moore scored 33 points as top-ranked Connecticut defeated Vanguard 98-68 on Monday night in an exhibition game.Junior Lorin Dixon, among the candidates to replace Renee Montgomery as the Huskies starting point guard, sustained a left hamstring injury when attempting a layup with 15:42 remaining in the first half. She did not return and is questionable for UConn's season-opener against Northeastern on Saturday.
Tina Charles added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tiffany Hayes had 15 points and Caroline Doty had 11.
Rachel Copeland scored 19 points and Bridgette Reyes had 17 for Vanguard, the 2007-2008 NAIA Division I national champion.
UConn led 12-0 at the time of Dixon's injury and was up 53-35 at the end of the first half. The Huskies began the second half with a 17-5 spurt to put the game away.
