Pepperdine tabs Weisenberg women's hoops coach

Apr 23, 2013 - 11:29 PM Malibu, CA (Sports Network) - Pepperdine announced the hiring of Ryan Weisenberg as its new head women's basketball coach on Tuesday.

Weisenberg had spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant with the Waves under Julie Rousseau, who resigned earlier this month following a 5-23 finish. Prior to joining the Pepperdine program, the California native worked as an assistant with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks from 2000-05 and the Houston Comets (2007), along with a three-year stint coaching professional basketball in New Zealand.

Weisenberg also briefly served as the Sparks' interim head coach in 2004 and was previously employed as an assistant video coordinator and advance scout for the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers from 2001-03.

"Ryan Weisenberg is a great fit as our new women's basketball head coach," said Pepperdine director of athletics Dr. Steve Potts. "He brings a strong commitment to our Christian mission, to the academic development and well- being of our student-athletes and to building a high quality women?s basketball program that competes for West Coast Conference championships annually. Ryan is a man of great character and integrity and possesses an extraordinary work ethic. His varied experiences in basketball at the highest level have prepared him for this challenge and we look forward to a bright future for Pepperdine women's basketball."
