McFerrin named Memphis women's coach
Apr 20, 2008 - 12:33 AM MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Melissa McFerrin was named Memphis' new women's basketball coach on Saturday.This past season, McFerrin guided American to an 18-14 record as the Eagles claimed the Patriot League title and advanced to the postseason for the first time since 1998. Overall, McFerrin was 50-70 in four seasons at American.
"We are very proud to have Melissa McFerrin join the Tiger family as our new head women's basketball coach," Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson said. "She brings a wealth of experience from both the collegiate and professional ranks and has been involved as a player and coach at some of the most respected institutions in the country."
McFerrin was the coach of Minnesota from 2002-04 and also the general manager of the WNBA's Washington Mystics from 2000-02, among other coaching positions.
She replaces Blair Savage-Lansden, who resigned after guiding the Tigers to a 10-20 record in her fourth season.
