Jan 3, 2009 - 8:41 AM (8) STANFORD 64, ARIZONA STATE 61TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Jillian Harmon had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Kayla Pedersen scored 17 as eighth-ranked Stanford won its Pac-10 Conference opener with a 64-61 victory over Arizona State.
The Cardinal (10-3, 1-0 Pac-10) trailed, 31-24, at the break and by as many as 14 early in the second half.
But Stanford would rally and Pedersen's 3-pointer capped a 14-0 run that put the visitors in front, 56-52, with just over four minutes to play.
Dymond Simon had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but her 3-pointer was off the mark.
Briann January scored 21 points to lead the Sun Devils (8-5, 0-1), who shot 40 percent (23-of-58) from the field, including 2-of-13 from the arc.
(15) VIRGINIA 62, GEORGIA 60
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- Lyndra Littles scored 23 points and had the go-ahead basket in the final minute as No. 15 Virginia edged Georgia, 62-60.
With the Cavaliers (12-2) trailing by one late in the game, Littles converted a three-point play to give the home team a 60-58 lead with 50 seconds to play.
Angela Puleo missed a 3-pointer for Georgia and Enong Stovall made a pair of free throws to give Virginia a 62-58 lead with 22 seconds remaining.
Monica Wright had a game-high 24 points for Virginia, which forced 19 turnovers in winning its seventh straight game.
Ashley Houts scored 19 points to pace the Bulldogs (9-5), who lost their second straight contest.
(9) CALIFORNIA 56, ARIZONA 46
TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Ashley Walker scored 23 points and Casey Morris added 18 off the bench as No. 9 California posted a 56-46 victory over Arizona.
The Bears (10-2, 1-0 Pac-10) held a 29-23 lead at the break and never trailed during the second half as they held the Wildcats to 28 percent (16-of-57) from the field.
Reiko Thomas scored 16 points to pace Arizona (7-5, 0-1), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
