UConn's Auriemma named Coach of the Year
Mar 23, 2009 - 4:46 PM ATLANTA (Ticker) -- With his team possibly headed to a sixth national championship, Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma on Monday was named the Division I Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.After guiding the Huskies to their fifth undefeated regular season and 15th Big East Conference tournament title, Auriemma won the award for the second straight year and third time overall.
In his 24th season at UConn, Auriemma is the first Division I coach to earn the honor in consecutive seasons.
On Sunday, the Huskies improved to 34-0 with a 104-65 victory over Vermont in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
