UConn F Moore wins Naismith Trophy
Apr 6, 2009 - 7:38 PM ST LOUIS (Ticker) -- Connecticut forward Maya Moore on Monday won the Naismith Trophy, given to the top women's college basketball player.The two-time Big East Player of the Year, Moore is the driving force behind the Huskies, who are 38-0 entering Tuesday's national championship game against Louisville.
A 6-0 sophomore, Moore averaged 19.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 53 percent from the field and setting the Connecticut single-season scoring mark.
Moore edged Angel McCoughtry (Louisville), fellow Huskies teammate Renee Montgomery and Courtney Paris (Oklahoma), a four-time Naismith finalist.
Other notable Naismith Trophy past winners include Cheryl Miller (USC), Dawn Staley (Virginia), Lindsey Harding (Duke) and last year's winner, Candace Parker (Tennessee).
