Callaway named UAB football coach

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) - Neil Callaway on Sunday was namedfootball coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.Callaway comes to the school after spending the past six seasonsas offensive coordinator at Georgia."Coach Callaway brings to UAB a hard-nosed attitude, both on thefield and in the classroom," interim athletics director RichardMargison said. "He knows how to win. He has been connectedwith winning programs everywhere he has been and he will bringthat attitude and experience to UAB."During his six seasons at Georgia, Callaway was part of a staffthat won two Southeastern Conference titles and had four top-10finishes."Neil has been an integral part of our program since arrivingand he's contributed to a lot of victories over the last sixyears," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "We'll miss him forsure, but I know he's wanted to be a head coach. So in thatregard, we're excited for him and his family that he has theopportunity."Callaway also has coached at Alabama, Houston, Auburn, Wyomingand East Carolina.He takes over for Watson Brown, who guided the program the last12 seasons.
