Late TD gives Texas Southern 30-25 victory
Dec 6, 2009 - 2:03 AM HOUSTON(AP) -- Joseph Anderson caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Arvell Nelson with 39 seconds left Saturday to give Texas Southern a 30-25 victory over Southern University.Texas Southern (6-5, 5-2 SWAC) held Southern (6-5, 3-4) to a three-and-out to get the ball on its own 49-yard line with 55 seconds left. Nelson hit Anderson for 15 yards and Andrew Thomas for 22 before finding Anderson for the game-winner. Nelson completed 20 of 38 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns (both to Anderson). He was also intercepted three times. Martin Gilbert had 105 yards rushing and a TD for the Tigers.
Southern had scored 9 fourth-quarter points to take a 25-23 lead. Quarterback Bryant Lee had 102 yards rushing and was 20 for 41 passing for 169 yards and two TDs. He was also picked off three times.
Each team had an interception return for a score.
