PPL Park wants more Villanova games
Jun 27, 2011 - 2:53 PM Chester, PA (Sports Network) - PPL Park officials want to form a partnership with Villanova football whether or not the university moves up to the Big East and the FBS.The Wildcats will go off campus to host Delaware in the annual Battle of the Blue on Nov. 19 at PPL Park. Officials at the home of the MLS' Philadelphia Union want the rivalry game to be the first of many more Villanova games.
The 18,500-seat PPL Park has been considered Villanova's possible home if it joins the Big East. In April, Villanova's board of trustees delayed a vote on the matter while the conference continues to perform due diligence regarding its potential acceptance of the 2009 FCS championship program.
All of Villanova's athletic teams play in the Big East except football, which is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
No matter Villanova's future, PPL Park is open to hosting more of the Wildcats' games.
"Even if they don't go (to the FCS) and get bigger opponents, we're their partner. We want to form a partnership with Villanova University to make PPL Park their home," Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz told the Delaware County Times. "We'll play more games. We'll play as many games as Villanova desires."
No one has shouted yet.
