Portland State's McCaffrey may be lost for season
Oct 17, 2011 - 2:13 PM Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Portland State team doctors are not optimistic injured running back Cory McCaffrey, the leading scorer in the Football Championship Subdivision, will return this season from an ankle injury.McCaffrey, a 5-foot-9, 185-pound senior, was injured during the fourth quarter of Saturday's 30-24 Big Sky loss at Montana. His lower left leg has been placed in a boot and he is walking with crutches.
McCaffrey leads the FCS with 13 touchdowns and 15.6 points per game through five games. He missed one game in Portland State's 3-3 season.
He has rushed for 731 yards on 122 carries.
Freshman running back Shaquille Richard, who has rushed for 226 yards and one touchdown on 59 carries, stands to pick up some of the lost production.
