Portland State signs two JUCO defensive backs
Dec 22, 2011 - 12:55 AM Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Portland State football signed a pair of junior college defensive backs to national letters of intent on Wednesday. The first two signees in coach Nigel Burton's 2012 recruiting class were David Edgerson, a 5-foot-11, 205-pound safety from Slidell, La., and Grossmont College (Calif.), and Dennis Fite, a 6-3, 190-pound cornerback from Citrus Hills, Calif., and Mt. San Jacinto Junior College (Calif.).
"We do not recruit JC student-athletes to provide depth. David and Dennis will have the opportunity to compete for starting spots immediately as will the players we have already on the roster," said Burton said. "With our top three safeties graduating, in addition to David Ross, we feel great about their ability to come in, provide leadership and be playmakers."
Portland State was 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky Conference this season.
