Oregon QB Thomas to go pro

Jan 15, 2012 - 3:09 AM Eugene, OR (Sports Network) - Darron Thomas has played his last game at Oregon, as the quarterback has opted to forego his senior season and enter the 2012 NFL Draft.

Thomas threw a school-record 33 touchdowns passes last season for the Pac-12 champion Ducks. He passed for 2,761 yards with only seven interceptions, finishing 11th in the country in passing efficiency.

Thomas, listed at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, guided Oregon to the BCS Championship Game his sophomore season and led the program to a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin earlier this month.

"I would like to thank everyone in Oregon for all their support and I would thank the coaches for all their help, especially Coach (Chip) Kelly." Thomas said. "I love my teammates and wish them the best of luck, and am confident they will continue the winning tradition that has been established."

Oregon's starting quarterback next season will be an inexperienced one, as redshirt freshman Bryan Bennett and true freshmen Marcus Mariota and Jake Rodrigues will vie for the nod.
