Idaho State football to be free of APR penalties

May 16, 2012 - 4:53 PM Pocatello, ID (Sports Network) - Idaho State University announced Wednesday that its football program will not receive any Academic Progress Rate penalties for the 2012-13 school year.

Idaho State, from the Big Sky Conference, was ineligible for NCAA postseason competition and lost some practice time and nearly three scholarships last year because of the APR, whose scores measure the classroom performance of a team over a four-year period.

Data has yet to be finalized for the 2011-12 school year, but Idaho State's two-year and four-year averages are expected to exceed the requirement set by the NCAA.

"There has been a tremendous effort by our coaching staff led by the efforts of Quinton Freeman (ISU director of football academics)," Bengals coach Mike Kramer said. "The improvement we are showing is a credit to our student- athletes who are investing their time, energy in all facets to make Idaho State a championship-caliber football program."
