Montana to visit Huskies in 2017
Aug 24, 2012 - 8:17 PM Missoula, MT (Sports Network) - The University of Montana announced Friday that its football team will play the University of Washington for the first time since 1951 on Sept. 2, 2017 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.Washington holds a 16-1-1 lead in a series that was played from 1920 to 1951. Montana's only win was 18-14 at Washington in 1920. The teams played to a 6-6 tie at UW in 1929.
Montana, which won FCS (then Division I-AA) national titles in 1995 and 2001 and has five national runner-up finishes, played in the same conference - the Pacific Coast Conference, which eventually became the Pac-12 - as Washington from 1924 to 1950.
"We are so excited about the renewal of this rivalry," Montana interim director of athletics Jean Gee said. "We have many alums in that area and look forward to seeing a lot of old friends. In addition, the Seattle area is a rich area for our recruiting efforts, and I am pleased that so many potential new Grizzlies will be able to see our exceptional product first-hand."
