Youngstown State upsets Pittsburgh
Sep 2, 2012 - 1:33 AM Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Youngstown State became the third FCS team to topple an FBS program in the 2012 season with a 31-17 victory at Pittsburgh Saturday night.The No. 13-ranked Penguins were led by quarterback Kurt Hess, who threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns, and Youngstown State totaled 381 yards.
Running back Jamaine Cook rushed for 84 of the team's 204 rushing yards on 21 carries. Andre Stubbs ran for 71 yards and one touchdown and caught four passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Last year, the Penguins lost at Michigan State, 28-6, but Saturday's season- opening win gave Youngstown its first win over an FBS school in its last 10 games since 2001.
Youngstown State spoiled Paul Chryst's head coaching debut at Pittsburgh.
The Penguins (1-0), a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, last won in the Keystone State in a 28-21 victory at Villanova in 1999.
On Thursday, McNeese State beat Middle Tennessee and Eastern Washington defeated Idaho for the season's first two FCS wins over FBS programs.
