Old Dominion adds Rhode Island, Idaho to 2013 schedule

Oct 22, 2012 - 6:49 PM Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - The Old Dominion football program announced Monday that it has added games against Rhode Island and Idaho to its 2013 schedule.

The Monarchs will play Rhode Island at home on Nov. 2 and on the road at FBS Idaho on Nov. 9.

"Rhode Island gives us a quality home game with a former Colonial Athletic Association rival," Old Dominion athletic director Dr. Wood Selig said. "Idaho is the first series with an FBS opponent and look forward to competing against them in the future."

The Vandals will meet with ODU again, but not until the 2019 season. That game will take place in Norfolk.

ODU will begin its transition to the FBS and as a Conference USA member and its 2013 schedule will feature a mixed schedule of FBS and FCS opponents.

The program will not fully join Conference USA until 2015, and it will be ineligible for conference and NCAA postseason play next season.

Currently, Idaho is the third FBS opponent slated for the 2013 season, as the Monarchs will play at Maryland on Sept. 7 and at North Carolina on Oct. 12.
