ACC suspends UNC linebacker, three referees
Oct 23, 2012 - 12:46 AM Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - The Atlantic Coast Conference has handed out several suspensions resulting from Saturday's games, including a one-game ban for North Carolina linebacker Shakeel Rashad.Rashad, a freshman, threw a shoulder into the back of an unsuspecting Duke player while running onto the field as a late substitution. The wide receiver, Conner Vernon, had to leave the field as a result of the hit.
Since no flag was thrown on the play, head linesman Tyrone Davis and side judge Angie Bartis were each given one-game bans for their disregard to player safety.
Another league referee, David Epperley, was suspended for one game for failing to acknowledge a 10-second runoff at the end of the first half during the Florida State-Miami game on Saturday. The entire crew for the contest received a letter of reprimand.
