Peveto out as Northwestern State coach
Nov 20, 2012 - 12:08 AM Natchitoches, LA (Sports Network) - Northwestern State will not renew football coach Bradley Dale Peveto's contract for next season, athletic director Greg Burke said Monday.Northwestern State, a Southland Conference member, added the 2012 season to Peveto's initial three-year contract a year ago, but the Demons finished only 4-7 this season, losing their final three games.
Peveto compiled a 14-30 record in four seasons, including 9-19 in Southland games.
"Bradley Dale has moved the Demon football program forward in many areas - academics, community relations, fundraising, to name a few - but on-field success has not been at a level for which anybody associated with the program had hoped," Burke said.
Northwestern State finished 0-11 in Peveto's first season in 2009, but then posted the fourth-best improvement in Division I in 2010 when it finished 5-6. The Demons also were 5-6 in 2011.
Peveto was the Demons' defensive coordinator under coach Sam Goodwin in 1996-98 and helped the program win the '97 and '98 Southland championships and make NCAA Division I-AA (now FCS) playoff appearances. He was on Les Miles' staff when LSU won the 2007 BCS national championship.
"I'm highly disappointed, to be honest, but I want to say that I have loved and cherished the four years I've spent, along with this coaching staff, at Northwestern State," Peveto said. "The community's been incredible. It's a great university that I dearly love. The players have been tremendous, the alumni have been wonderful, and it's been a fun ride."
