Trent Miles leaves Indiana State for Georgia State
Dec 1, 2012 - 2:40 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Indiana State head football coach Trent Miles has resigned from his position with the university to take over the football program at Georgia State.Miles leaves Indiana State with a 20-36 record over five seasons, but helped the Sycamores put together three consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1967-69 during the latter stages of his tenure.
"Trent Miles has been a terrific member of the Sycamore family for the past 5 years," Indiana State director of athletics Ron Prettyman said in announcing the resignation. "He has been a dynamic leader and role model for the young men in our program."
Miles takes over at Georgia State following the retirement of Bill Curry, the program's head coach since its inception in 2008. The Panthers finished 1-10 in Curry's final season, including a 1-7 mark in conference play.
Georgia State moves to the Sun Belt Conference in 2013, marking the second and final year of the program's transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision.
"As Georgia State Football enters its next chapter with the move to FBS and the Sun Belt Conference, we need a program-builder, and that's exactly what we have in Trent Miles," Georgia State director of athletics Cheryl L. Levick said. "He is a dynamic leader, a tireless recruiter, and a talented coach who will take this program to the next level."
