UC Davis reportedly to name Gould as football coach
Dec 15, 2012 - 9:52 PM Davis, CA (Sports Network) - UC Davis reportedly will name former University of California running backs coach Ron Gould as its new head football coach.Footballscoop, com reported Saturday that sources said the hiring will occur at the Big Sky Conference program on Monday.
Gould, 47, spent the last 16 seasons at Cal, but new Bears head coach Sonny Dykes chose not to retain him as part of his staff. He had served as the Bears' associate head coach since 2008.
Gould coached 10 former Cal running backs who have spent time in the NFL, including Marshawn Lynch, Jahvid Best, J.J. Arrington and Justin Forsett.
He also coached at Oregon (1990-91, graduate assistant), Portland State (1992, defensive backs) and Boise State (defensive backs, 1993-96).
UC Davis finished 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the Big Sky this season under Bob Biggs, who retired after 20 seasons as head coach.
