Fittingly, defense wins NDSU spring game
Apr 27, 2013 - 10:58 PM Fargo, ND (Sports Network) - Members of last season's North Dakota State football team received their FCS national championship rings on Saturday. And then the nation's most dominant defense went out and shined again in the Bison's annual spring game. The Green (defense) intercepted a pair of Gold (offense) passes and came up with a fumble recovery en route to a first-half lead and a 27-16 win before 4,921 fans at the Fargodome.
The spring game featured 54 plays and used a scoring system to give points for interceptions, fumble recoveries, three-and-out possessions, fourth-down stops, tackles for loss, 10-play drives, sacks and normal football scoring plays.
Free safety Christian Dudzik and All-America cornerback Marcus Williams had interceptions, and Andrew Smith scooped up a fumble while the Green took a 12-0 first-half lead.
Quarterback Brock Jensen connected on an 8-yard scoring pass to Zach Vraa to cut the Gold team's deficit to 17-10 by halftime, but the squad never led in the game.
North Dakota State has won each of the last two FCS titles, going 14-1 each season under coach Craig Bohl.
