Stanford QB Nunes medically retires

Apr 30, 2013 - 12:03 AM Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes, who started the first nine games for the Cardinal this past season, is retiring from football due to medical reasons, the school announced on Monday.

In his first year as the starter under center, Nunes passed for 1,643 yards with 10 touchdowns. He played sparingly in the second half of the 2012 season, though, as sophomore Kevin Hogan started and won five games for the Cardinal that included a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.

Specific reasoning for the medical retirement was not explained, but Nunes did suffer an arm injury during offseason workouts that forced him to miss the team's spring practices.
