After brain surgery, Portland State's Long visits practice
May 4, 2013 - 10:03 AM Portland, OR (Sports Network) - If Portland State's football program wants to have players who can fight through adversity, it has the right one in freshman running back Steven Long.Five days after having brain surgery, Long was back alongside his teammates at football practice on Friday.
After getting many hugs and handshakes from his teammates, Long spoke to members of the team before their workout.
"It's been crazy," Long later told the media, expressing gratitude for the support of others over the past week.
Long suffered seizures in his dorm room on April 25. His roommate and teammate, Adam Futter, and girlfriend, Brogan Taylor, alertly got Long to Oregon Health Sciences University.
By last weekend, it was discovered Long had a small growth on his brain. Surgery was performed Sunday and an infectious lesion was removed.
Released from the hospital on Tuesday, Long is back at his home in Lake Oswego. He is expected to make a full recovery, but his football career is on hold for at least the next six months.
No one has shouted yet.
