Baylor extends head football coach Briles

Nov 14, 2013 - 3:08 AM Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Art Briles, the head football coach of the fourth-ranked Baylor Bears, has reportedly received a contract extension that will keep him in Waco through 2023.

According to a report from the Dallas Morning News, the school's board of regents approved the extension Wednesday, with the Baylor bench boss receiving a significant boost in salary that will make him one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in the country.

The extension comes with the Bears off to their first 8-0 start in school history, making them a legitimate national title contender.

Briles, who turns 58 in December, was hired by Baylor after the 2007 season and has guided the Bears to three straight bowl appearances.

Briles had received an eight-year extension worth an average of $3.5 million following last year's 8-5 campaign that ended with a 49-19 rout of UCLA in the Holiday Bowl.
