Nov 25, 2013 - 5:41 PM New Britain, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Central Connecticut head football coach Jeff McInerney announced his resignation on Monday, two days after completing a 4-8 season.McInerney compiled a 48-41 record over eight seasons with the Blue Devils, but they have suffered through three straight losing seasons. "After eight seasons as head coach of the Blue Devils, I believe this is a good time to move onward in my career," McInerney said in a statement. "So I want to announce today that I will be leaving CCSU at the end of December. I am sad to be leaving a place I have come to love and people I deeply admire. I thank president Jack Miller for the opportunity to coach so many outstanding student- athletes here. Whether we have won championships or not, these young men have always impressed me with their desire to excel, and they will all hold a special place in my heart."
CCSU will begin an immediate national search for a new head football coach.
