Pitt's Donald wins Nagurski Trophy

Dec 11, 2013 - 12:32 AM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh senior defensive tackle Aaron Donald was named the recipient of the 2013 Bronko Nagurski Trophy honoring the nation's most outstanding college football defensive player.

Donald, the 2013 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, was selected over four other finalists after recording 54 tackles, including 26 1/2 for loss, and 10 sacks in 12 games this season.

The Pittsburgh native is the first Panther defender to earn a national honor since linebacker Hugh Green claimed the Lombardi, Maxwell and Walter Camp awards in 1980.

Donald is also a finalist for the Bednarik Award, which also recognizes the top defensive player in college football, as well as the Lombardi and Outland Trophies. All three will be handed out later this week.

The other finalists for this year's Nagurski Trophy were Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard, Florida State defensive back Lamarcus Joyner, Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley and Missouri end Michael Sam.
