Jackson State fires football coach Comegy
Dec 18, 2013 - 4:40 PM Jackson, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Despite leading Jackson State to the last two Southwestern Athletic Conference championship games, head football coach Rick Comegy was fired on Wednesday.Comegy had a 55-35 record in eight seasons, including 8-4 this season, which ended with a 34-27 overtime loss to Southern University in the SWAC championship game on Dec. 7.
A year ago, Jackson State also was the East Division representative in the title game, losing to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Comegy's tenure with the Tigers was troubled at times, including the team's 2011 ban from the postseason due to its poor NCAA Academic Progress Rate scores.
JSU director of athletics Vivian L. Fuller said a search for Comegy's successor will begin immediately.
"We are grateful to Coach Comegy and his staff for their service to Jackson State," Fuller said. "We appreciate the work he has done with JSU athletics and we wish him well."
