Fields' transfer to Stephen F. Austin denied

Aug 8, 2014 - 10:56 PM Nacogdoches, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Former TCU standout Devonte Fields, who announced earlier in the week he planned to transfer to Stephen F. Austin, will be ineligible to play for the Lumberjacks as a result of the off-field issues that prompted his dismissal from the Horned Frogs' program.

In a statement released by the SFA athletic department Friday, Fields was officially suspended by TCU for violations of the student honor code. Due to university policy, the talented defensive end must be prohibited from all football-related activities for at least one year.

Fields has since elected not to enroll at Stephen F. Austin, the school announced.

The 2014 Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Fields was distanced from the TCU program after being arrested for an alleged assault on his ex- girlfriend last month.

Fields emerged as one of the nation's premier pass rushers as a freshman in 2012, racking up 10 sacks and 18 1/2 tackles for loss in 13 games to earn Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors. The Fort Worth native was limited to just three games last season because of a foot injury and a prior suspension.
