Alabama State seeks higher level under Jenkins
Dec 17, 2014 - 4:11 PM Montgomery, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Alabama State football has had plenty of success, but the Southwestern Athletic Conference program is hoping new football coach Brian Jenkins can do for it what he did at Bethune-Cookman.Jenkins, 43, compiled a 46-14 record over the last five seasons as Bethune- Cookman's head coach. He won four Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles, led three squads to the FCS playoffs and was named the conference's coach of the year three times.
The Wildcats were 34-6 in conference play under Jenkins and won 18 straight conference games between 2011-13, the second-longest streak in MEAC history.
Before taking over at Bethune-Cookman following the 2009 season, Jenkins had been a college assistant at Eastern Illinois, Bowling Green, Louisiana- Lafayette and Rutgers.
At Alabama State, Jenkins replaces Reggie Barlow, whose contract was not renewed after a 7-5 season. He was 49-42 in eight seasons with the Hornets.
