Former Duquesne football player dies by suicide
Mar 1, 2015 - 11:53 PM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Duquesne University football player Chris Johnson's death last week was ruled a suicide by the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sunday the 22-year-old from Ocala, Florida, was found in Churchill at 10:50 a.m. Friday, the victim of a self- inflicted gunshot wound.
"Everyone associated with the Duquesne football program is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Chris," Duquesne football coach Jerry Schmitt said in a statement. "Chris was a passionate football player who was also a great teammate, who was loved by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chris' family at this difficult time."
Johnson was a transfer from the University of Florida who played his junior and senior seasons at Duquesne the last two years. He had 104 tackles and two interceptions in his two seasons with the Northeast Conference school.
