Idaho's postseason ban lifted by NCAA
Mar 3, 2015 - 11:21 PM Moscow, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - The NCAA has lifted an academics-related postseason ban on the Idaho football program, the school said Tuesday. The ban was instituted after Idaho's Academic Progress Rate dipped below the minimum standards in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The school said in a news release that Vandals players have "consistently" posted grade-point averages of 2.55 in Paul Petrino's four semesters as head coach.
Idaho is 2-21 under Petrino since he was hired in December 2012.
In addition to a postseason ban, the team competed last season with four fewer hours of practice per week.
"We never make excuses," Petrino said in a statement, "but that hurt. That's big."
The reduction in practice time will be lifted if Idaho's APR and single-year eligibility rates for 2014-15 are 940 or above. The team's APR numbers have been in the 950s and are projected to be in the 960s this year, according to the school.
