Princeton cruises to win in Japan

Mar 22, 2015 - 12:13 AM Osaka, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Princeton will have a new quarterback in the upcoming season, and sophomore Chad Kanoff got a leg up in the race on Saturday.

Kanoff completed 15-of-20 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns to earn MVP honors in Princeton's 36-7 victory over the Kwansei Gakuin University Fighters in the Legacy Bowl, which completed the Tigers' international trip to Japan and their spring practice season.

Princeton must replace the 2013 Ivy League offensive player of the year Quinn Epperly and Connor Michelsen under center. The Tigers finished 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the league a year ago.

Kanoff wasn't Princeton's only offensive standout. Sophomore A.J. Glass rushed 12 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns, and junior Dre Nelson had 11 carries for 77 yards. Sophomore James Frusciante caught six passes for 66 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, both Markus Phox and Sam Huffman intercepted passes.

"I was pleased by the execution and balance we showed on offense and how physical we played on defense," Princeton coach Bob Surace said.

Kwansei Gakuin has been Japan's collegiate national champion a record 27 times.

Princeton had previously defeated the Fighters, 27-25, in a 2001 game in Japan.
