Baylor fires football coach Morriss

Nov 18, 2007 - 7:46 PM WACO, Texas (Ticker) -- After five disappointing seasons, Guy Morriss was fired as Baylor coach on Sunday.

The move comes one day after Baylor completed its season with a 45-14 home loss to Oklahoma State. The Bears finished the season with an eight-game losing streak, failed to win any of their eight Big 12 Conference games and went 3-9 overall.

Morriss went a woeful 18-40 during his tenure. His most successful season was a 5-6 mark in 2005.

"A national search will begin immediately to identify and recruit the very best person to lead Baylor football into the future," athletic director Ian McCaw said.

"There is no precise timetable for the search. I will be utilizing the services of a search consultant to assist in the identification of candidates who are capable of establishing a winning football program at Baylor that exhibits integrity and academic excellence."
