Report: Texas A&M to name Sherman coach

Nov 26, 2007 - 4:08 PM BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Texas A&M will name Houston Texans offensive coordinator Mike Sherman as Dennis Franchione's successor, ESPN.com reported on its web site Monday.

Texas A&M has not confirmed the report, but the school has called a noon EST news conference to make an announcement regarding its football program.

After six years as the Green Bay Packers' coach, Sherman joined Gary Kubiak's staff in Houston as an assistant last season. He was promoted to offensive coordinator this year.

While in Green Bay from 2000-05, the 52-year-old Sherman coached the Packers to three NFC North Division titles. He had two previous stints as an assistant at Texas A&M, serving as an offensive line coach from 1989-93 and again in 1995-96.

Franchione resigned on Friday following the Aggies' 38-30 victory over Texas. In five seasons at Texas A&M, he posted a 32-28 record.
