Baylor to name Briles coach

Nov 28, 2007 - 6:49 PM WACO, Texas (Ticker) -- Baylor is expected to name Art Briles as its new football coach, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported on its web site Wednesday.

The school does have a news conference scheduled for 5:30 p.m local time to announce its new football coach.

According to the report, speculation is that Briles, who has coached the last five years at Houston, will get the job. Briles interviewed with Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw on Tuesday in Dallas.

Briles would replace Guy Morriss, who was fired on November 18 following a 3-9 season.

At Houston, Briles has posted a 34-28 record and guided the Cougars to four bowl appearances.

The web site reported that McCaw also interviewed San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Mike Singletary, a former Baylor All-American and an NFL Hall of Famer.

In five years, Morriss posted 18-40 record, including a woeful 7-33 mark against Big 12 Conference foes.
