Report: Texas A&M players arrested

Dec 6, 2007 - 4:57 PM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Two Texas A&M football players were arrested late Wednesday night in connection with an armed robbery investigation, according to a report Thursday on the Dallas Morning News' web site.

Citing a College Station police statement, the newspaper reported that junior offensive lineman Yemi Babalola was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of misdemeanor marijuana possession.

According to the report, freshman defensive end Brandon Joiner was charged with three counts of drug possession.

The newspaper reported that the charges stemmed from an alleged armed robbery which took place November 29 at a Texas A&M off-campus apartment.

College Station police officers responded to an emergency call which claimed that two men entered an a Callaway Villas apartment and struck the person who opened the door.

According to the report, several items were taken before the intruders, one of whom was carrying a semi-automatic handgun, fled on foot.

College station officers executed a search warrant of Babalola's residence Wednesday and found the drugs along with other evidence from the robbery, according to the police statement. A second warrant was executed at Joiner's residence, where more drugs were found.

Both men were in the Brazos County Jail in Bryan, Texas on Thursday morning.

"From the information that we have at this time, it is obvious that this is a very serious situation," Texas A&M spokesman Alan Cannon said in a statement released early Thursday morning. "The Texas A&M athletics department will cooperate completely with any investigation into this matter to gather all accurate information."

The 6-4, 315-pound Babalola started six games this season for the Aggies (7-5), who will play Penn State on December 29 in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

The 6-3, 224-pound Joiner redshirted this season.
