Ex-Delaware star Gregory dies at 58
Feb 8, 2008 - 4:21 AM NEWARK, Delaware (Ticker) - Ted Gregory, who starred at Delaware and later became the football program's first African-American coach, died Tuesday. He was 58.A standout defensive end, Gregory played three seasons (1968-70) under coach Tubby Raymond, helping the Blue Hens to a 26-7 record.
Gregory was an eighth-round pick of the New York Giants in 1971 and had a tryout with the Cincinnati Bengals the following season before returning to Delaware.
In 1972, his first season on the Blue Hens' staff, Delaware won the small college national championship.
Gregory served as an offensive line and defensive ends coach at the school until 1977.
