Stanford names Lynn co-defensive coordinator

Feb 9, 2008 - 7:35 AM STANFORD, California (Ticker) -- Stanford named Ron Lynn co-defensive coordinator and assistant head coach on Friday.

Lynn has 38 years of experience coaching at both the collegiate and professional level. Linebackers coach Andy Buh has also been elevated to co-defensive coordinator along with Lynn.

Lynn and Buh will work with a Stanford defense that ranked third in the Pac-10 Conference in both sacks and tackles for loss, as well as fifth nationally in tackles for loss and 11th in sacks.

"We're tremendously excited to add Ron Lynn to our staff," Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh said. "He brings a wealth of football knowledge and experience to our staff that our players and coaches will benefit from. I feel like we have one of the great defensive minds in the country.

"I'm really been pleased with Andy Buh," Harbaugh added. "Andy is a very talented coach, and we felt that our linebackers were extremely well-coached last season, and it showed on the field."

Lynn's long line of experience includes defensive coordinator positions in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers (1986-91), Cincinnati Bengals (1992-93) and Washington Redskins (1994-96). He also was secondary coach with the New England Patriots (1997-99), Oakland Raiders (2000-03) and San Francisco 49ers (2004).
