Autopsy for WR Plancher inconclusive

Mar 19, 2008 - 10:12 PM ORLANDO (Ticker) -- An autopsy on Central Florida freshman wide receiver Ereck Plancher proved inconclusive, the Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday on its web site.

Plancher died Tuesday after collapsing during a workout in preparation for the opening spring practice. He was 19.

Orange County associate medical examiner Joshua Stephany conducted the autopsy on Wednesday. The medical examiner's office issued a statement saying "further testing will be required" to determine the cause of death.

A native of Naples, Florida, Plancher took a knee during his workout before becoming unresponsive and was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. He passed away at 11:51 am EDT, shortly after being taken to Florida Hospital East Orlando.

The Central Florida team, coaches and support staff conducted a private memorial service in honor of Plancher at the school on Wednesday.

"I have been to a lot of memorial services, but I have never heard more positive things said about an individual than I heard today about Ereck," Central Florida coach George O'Leary said. "His teammates, coaches and support staff spoke highly of his character."

Central Florida postponed the start of spring practice until Monday.
