Arkansas dismisses LB Fairchild

Jun 11, 2008 - 9:28 PM FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (Ticker) -- Arkansas linebacker Freddie Fairchild, who was arrested three months ago on multiple misdemeanor charges, was dismissed from the team Wednesday.

Fairchild was suspended from football activities on March 25, one day after being arrested on misdemeanor charges of battery and false imprisonment against a woman.

Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino officially cut ties with the talented but troubled linebacker Wednesday, announcing his decision in a written statement.

"Freddie Fairchild has been dismissed from our football team," Petrino said. "Since his suspension last March, he has not participated in team activities.

"As his status with our team has been resolved, we will make no further comment regarding this matter."

Fairchild, 21, started 11 games as a redshirt sophomore for the Razorbacks last season, recording 92 tackles and a team-leading 4 1/2 sacks.
