Alabama LB Johns arrested

Jun 24, 2008 - 6:43 PM TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- Alabama senior linebacker Jimmy Johns was arrested Tuesday on five felony counts of distributing cocaine.

A spokesman for the Tuscaloosa Police Department told PA SportsTicker that investigators with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force found between nine and 11 grams of cocaine at Johns' residence.

Johns, 21, was charged with five counts of distribution of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance after investigators also found cocaine and ecstasy pills at his house, police said.

Police said they had previous information that Johns was involved selling drugs. They used that information to make buys from him over the last week and a half, then obtained a search warrant for his house.

Johns is being held in Tuscaloosa County Jail on $120,000 bond.

Upon his arrest, Johns was dismissed from the football team by coach Nick Saban.

"This behavior obviously will not be tolerated, and he is no longer a part of our program," Saban said in a statement.

After ranking second on the team in rushing as a freshman and sophomore, Johns saw limited playing time last season due to academic reasons. He was moved from running back to linebacker this spring.
